March 4, 2019

Unrushed day, today, driving north from Ciudad Constitucion to Mulege.

On the way we stopped to admire the geology:

Bahia Concepcion – yes, the water is that blue:

and wandered down to the Isla el Requeson:

Even though you are not staying in campgrounds, are you seeing many of them along the way? Are you traveling the entire length of the Baja?

There are RV parks and campgrounds in or near almost every town/village (of which there are not many).

Here are a couple of books that we have:
      Camping Mexico’s Baja (https://www.amazon.com/Travelers-Guide-Camping-Mexicos-Baja/dp/098231017X/)
      Baja Camping (https://www.amazon.com/Baja-Camping-Featuring-Campground-Including/dp/1573540137/)

In general, the quality of RV parks is not great, with small spaces, often no sewer, and not well-maintained.

That’s where your rig comes into its own – you can boondock anywhere. For a few pesos you can get a palapa site on the beach and pretend you are in the tropics.

We’re doing it this time by hotelling and motelling it. Part of this is to refamiliarize ourselves with the peninsular (it was 2005 when we were last down here – not much has changed) and part is to be sure that we are good about unfamiliar places, given B’s events of last year. So far, everything has checked out just fine 🙂 We’d be happy to camp, and will, next time.

We stopped short at La Paz.

Back in 2003, we flew into Los Cabos airport, and did the Cabo San Lucas, San Jose del Cabo, Todos Santos and La Paz loop. We didn’t feel the need to go there this time. We will not be going over hwy 5 to Puerticitos and San Felipe, because i) the road from Puerticitos to San Felipe is reported to be be in dreadful condition, and ii) we wanted to visit El Marmol, Meling Ranch and the Observatory on the way back north.
